چکیده

Abstract Recent measurements at the LIGO Hanford Observatory have confirmed the predicted high-frequency dynamic response of km scale Fabry–Perot cavities to length and laser frequency variations. The dynamic response functions have been exploited to determine a number of cavity parameters including the cavity length and the resonance width. A new technique based on a variation of these measurements has been utilized to measure the interferometer arm cavity lengths with a precision of 80 μm. We present an overview of these measurements and discuss how the dynamic field responses could be used to measure the cavity g factors which are related to the mirror radii of curvature.

Dynamic resonance of light in Fabry–Perot cavities

The dynamics of light in Fabry–Perot cavities with varying length and input laser frequency are analyzed. At high frequencies, the response to length variations is very different from the response to laser frequency variations. Implications for kilometerscale Fabry–Perot cavities such as those utilized in gravitational-wave detectors are discussed.  2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserv...

Feedforward reduction of the microseism disturbance in a long-baseline interferometric gravitational-wave detector

Standing ocean waves driven by storms can excite surface waves in the ocean floor at twice the wave frequency. These traverse large distances on land and are called the double-frequency (DF) microseism. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detector relies on length servos to maintain optical resonance in its 4 km Fabry-Perot cavities, which consist of seismically-isola...

Laser Frequency and Intensity Stabilization for Advanced LIGO

Advanced LIGO searches for gravitational wave events using two 4-km Fabry–Pérot Michelson interferometers separated by a 3000 km baseline. Each interferometer is illuminated with up to 125 W of 1064 nm light from a frequencyand intensity-stabilized Nd:YAG laser. This laser is frequency-locked to the interferometer’s commonmode arm length, which acts as a 4-km-long reference cavity with a 1 Hz l...

Analysis of light noise sources in a recycled Michelson interferometer with Fabry-Perot arms.

We present a method by which the effect of laser field variations on the signal output of an interferometric gravitational wave detector is rigorously determined. Using the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) optical configuration of a power recycled Michelson interferometer with Fabry-Perot arm cavities as an example, we calculate the excess noise after the input filter ...

Linewidth-broadened Fabry–Perot cavities within future gravitational wave detectors

The bandwidth of LIGO-like terrestrial interferometric gravitational wave detectors is set by the pole of the Fabry–Perot cavities within the arms of the Michelson interferometer. This constraint arises because the gain of gravitational wave-induced signal sidebands is limited to frequencies within the linewidth of the cavities. The nature of standard Fabry–Perot cavities is such that one canno...
